Justice Adebukola Banjoko of FCT high Court granted bail to two alleged armed robbers, Adejo Mohammed, and Abdul Garba, on Monday in the sum of N1million each.
Mohammed, 27 and Garba, 32, were charged with possession of firearms and robbery.
According to the trial judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko, the defendants were admitted to bail because the prosecution did not oppose the motion for their bail filed by their counsel, Mr Osborne Chukwudi on Dec.11, 2017.
Banjoko, in her ruling on their bail application, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.
She also directed the Divisional Police Officer to verify the addresses of the sureties and confirm from neighbours whether or not “they are persons of good character.’’
The case was adjourned until Feb. 13 for hearing.
The two defendants were arraigned on July 18, 2017, and they had pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and robbery.
The prosecutor, Mr Ephraim Seyi, told the court that the Commissioner of Police in the FCT was informed through intelligence report of a hide-out of robbers in Lugbe Area on June 4.
He said that the commissioner dispatched a team of policemen to arrest the hoodlums, at the hideout, from where they set out to loot and rob people of their valuable property.
Seyi also said that upon carrying out the raid at the hideout, the two defendants were arrested while one ran away.
He said that during the search by the police, a pistol with two live cartridges was recovered in the possession of Adejo Mohammed.
