Nzeuzor Jane and Bestman Orji, Port Harcourt
As the Rivers State Government plans to construct two more fly overs, some residents have commended the move while others says building interchange flyovers will adequately solve the traffic problems in the State.
A Civil Rights Activist Opunabo Nko-Tariah has criticised governor Wike for neglecting other tribes by concentrating on the construction of flyovers in Port Harcourt and Obio/ Akpor alone. He told our reporters that the governor is not interested in the welfare of Rivers people that he is only concern in the construction of flyovers so that he will be able to enrich himself. He however advised the governor to look at other sectors that are begging for attention.
Meanwhile, an economist Mr. Nengi Wobo in an interview with our reporters said that he is proud of Governor Wike’s developmental stride especially in the area of construction of roads and head bridges across the capital city, but argued that it is high time the Governor started giving attention to such economic projects such as agriculture, industries and such others which will provide employment opportunity to the youth and yield income to the Government.
According to him, though the head bridges built so far are on their own a source of beautification to the City, and are meant to ease off traffic on the roads but the construction of head bridges should not have been considered a priority by Wike administration rather empowering the youths and providing employment opportunities for them. He said such things are considered more beneficial and more economically viable than other projects put together.
In the meantime, the member representing Obio/Akpor constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule has risen in defense of governor Wike. He told our reporters that governor Wike has done very well in all sectors. He said the Rumukurushi Elimgbu flyover project will definitely ease traffic and engender development within the area. Adding that the governor is doing well as this can be attested by the numerous infrastructure projects he has embarked upon.
