African champions Senegal are through to the knockout stage of the World Cup after they defeated Ecuador 2-1 in their last group match. They qualified as second in group A with six points while Netherlands won the group with seven points after defeating hapless Qatar 2-0.
Qatar emerged the worst host of the World Cup with three defeats.
For the Africans, Watford winger, Ismaila Sarr opened scoring in the 44th minute when he converted a penalty.
Another England based player, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo equalised for the South Americans.
Three minutes later, Chelsea’s Koulibaly scored the winner for the African champions.
For the round of 16 Senegal will face the winner of group B, which could be England, Iran or USA.
