African champions Senegal lost their World Cup opening match for the first time as they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands at the Al Thumama Stadium.

As Senegal push forward for an equaliser, Edouard Mendy fumbled Memphis Depay’s shot, Davy Klaassen was at the right place at the right time to sweep home Netherlands second goal in the 99th minute.
Senegal must win host and debutants Qatar and Ecuador to qualify for the next round.
The African champions, who are now third in group A, will take on Qatar on Friday as Netherlands tread tackles with Ecuador.
