The Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe has flagged-off the Greg Ibe Education Intervention Scheme, to cater for the educational needs of Abia students.
The Scheme which entails free scholarship programme, distribution of exercise books,textbooks,as well as free online entrepreneurship training, will involve schools in the different senatorial zones of the state.
The Flag off ceremony which took place at the Christ the King Cathedral College, Aba for the Abia South Zone, had over 10,000 books and textbooks released for the distribution of students in Abia South.
Addressing the Students, the Vice Chancellor Gregory University, Prof Augustine Uwakwe, commended the humanitarian gestures of Prof Ibe, which cuts across intervention schemes, particularly on the area of education, health, among others.
The Vice Chancellor commended the philanthropic nature of Prof Greg Ibe,who he revealed has contributed alot to the education sector in Abia State, with the release of over 100 scholarships for students, recounting also the distribution of food items to Abians to cushion the effect of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Prof Uwakwe noted that the best any one can offer for the betterment of the society is to give free education.
He, however, advised Abians to give Prof Ibe the opportunity to govern Abia,even as he has declared interest to run for the 2023 gubernatorial race, adding that Prof Ibe is not coming for selfish interest but to develop Abia.
Also,the Director General Abia Crusader Foundation,Prince Emeka Okafor,disclosed that Prof Ibe understood the importance of education that is why he delved into the distribution of free education materials to aid learning among students.
According to Prince Okafor, Abia students should expect more from the educational scholar who has put alot of resources to support education across the zones in the state.
He said the first phase of the exercise is the distribution of free exercise books to students of secondary schools after which the distribution of textbooks and scholarship scheme would be awarded.
He stated that the scholarships are given based on the course of study, which would run from 100Level to final year.
The DG Abia Crusader’s Foundation, further revealed that so far, over 600 students are on scholarship in the Gregory University,with more to be included this year, adding that Abians should seized the opportunity of bringing on board Prog Ibe as the Governor come 2023,”Prof Ibe would not only give you fish but would teach you how to fish”.
Prince Emeka Okafor noted that the Prof Ibe’s free online entrepreneurship training is another way he has used to raise business men and women, stressing that when he becomes the Governor he would create more opportunities for businesses to thrive, especially with his international contacts.
The Media Coordinator Prof Gregory Ibe Foundation, Mr Sleek Ogwo, said Abians are in for more opportunities with the launch of the Prof Gregory Ibe Education Intervention Scheme.
While appreciating the leadership of the Christ The King Church for their partnership, revealed that the exercise would be flag-off in other senatorial zones of the state,with Abia Central taking the next turn,while Abia North follows suit.
Similarly, the Prof Greg Ibe Education Scheme for Abia Central was launched today at the Ibeku High School, Umuahia, distributing free exercise books to the students of the school.
In his opening remarks, Rev Sleek Ogwo disclosed that the Prof Greg Ibe Foundation has four components; the distribution of exercise books, textbooks, university scholarships and free online entrepreneural training which he would be handling himself,so as to unveil secrets to his success in business.
The Director General Abia Crusader’s Foundation, Prince Emeka Okafor, stated that Prof Greg Ibe’s Education intervention scheme was bid to salvage the problem of students dropping out of school due to the inability of their parents to fund their education.He said Prof Ibe understands the importance of a good foundation, which is embedded in a quality education, adding that he would continue to support education in Abia.
Prince Okafor further urged the students to remember Prof Ibe in their prayers,so that God would bring to pass his ambition of becoming the next Governor of Abia State.
