The Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu,Abia State, has officially declared his interest to run for Governorship, unveiling a blueprint for Abia development.
Prof Ibe who stormed the People’s Democratic Party Secretariat,Umuahia, alongside his array of supporters, officially informed the party of his interest to join the governorship race in the forth coming general elections.
Giving his manifesto tagged “A New Abia”, Prof Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, said he has developed a blueprint that would ensure Abia is placed on a higher pedestal that will benefit all and sundry.
According to him, the blueprint mirrors Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s 30 Year development plan,that will be synergized to achieve optimum outcomes for Abia.
He said he is coming into the governorship race to bring to bare his wealth of experiences both as an entrepreneur, educationist and consultant to the United Nations and other foreign countries.
Prof Ibe noted that his manisfesto is populated with workable ideas,social issue of employment, security of human lives and properties.
He added that there would be massive creation of jobs for the teeming unemployed youths, while elders will have accrued benefits.
The 2023 Governorship Aspirant further assured of government’s presence across the seventeen Local Government Areas of the state, promising to run an open access government, which would be decentralized,with the people having direct access to their Governor.
The Chancellor also stated that he has put psychosocial plan,which encompasses kitting security agencies, driving intelligence- led protection of the citizenry and as well, leverage on his partnership with the Nigerian Defence architecture,to ensure adequate protection of Abians.
He further revealed that he has developed a formula that would see to sustained payment of workers’ salaries,as well as pensions.”That formula i would unveil once am elected as the Governor”.
Prof Ibe noted that he is coming as the Governor of the state to render selfless service, reposition the state by putting it on the pedestal of development, assuring that he would continue from where Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stopped to provide more research based development, adding that the economy, the health sector, education, and other sectors of the state would thrive once he comes on board.
The Academic guru, however, disclosed that he has over #30 Billion worth of investment as a university in Abia, therefore, he is the highest contender in the governorship race, with others following behind.
Meanwhile,the Governorship aspirant stated that he has contributed to the welfare of Abians, particularly during the outbreak of the Covid -19 pandemic,where he distributed bags of rice,beans,cartons of noodles to cushion the effects of the pandemic on Abians,adding that over 350 Abians are on scholarship in his university.
Similarly, he said he has contributed immensely to the development of the PDP in the state, promising to do more for the party,as well as enthrone excellence in the governance of Abia state.
Responding the PDP chairman in Abia,Rt Hon Asiforo, expressed delight in the declaration of Prof Greg Ibe,stating that, “This is the quality of aspirant we want”.
Rt.Hon Okere attested to the numerous contributions of Prof Ibe both to the state and PDP, describing him as a man of impeccable character,who has distinguished himself in every field of endeavours, both in education, entrepreneur, among others.
Highpoint of the event,was the donation of a brand new bus to the state executive committee of the PDP, to ease their movement in service to the party and the government of the state.
