The Abia State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme, on Wednesday inspected ongoing projects at the Osisioma Campus of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.
Prof. Eme carried out the inspection alongside the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, members of the Governing Council, management staff, and the Academic Board. The visit was aimed at assessing the level of progress on the projects ahead of the planned commencement of academic activities at the campus.
Projects inspected included the first phase of the 5,000-capacity male and female hostels, the library complex, School of Business Studies, medical building, and the Administrative Complex.

Speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing him as a results-oriented leader and a history maker. She said the rapid transformation of the campus reflects the government’s strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
She recalled that during earlier visits, many of the facilities at the campus were abandoned, but noted that massive construction, reconstruction, and repainting of buildings have now been carried out within a short period.
Prof. Eme disclosed that the Governor has broader development plans for Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions in the state. She assured that the government is fully aware of the challenges facing the institutions and is deliberately working to address them.
She reiterated the state government’s resolve to strengthen technical education through skills acquisition and quality, industry-driven training. The Commissioner also laid the foundation for another project at the campus and commended the quality of fabricated works produced by the Polytechnic’s students.

Prof. Eme further expressed delight over reforms introduced by the institution’s management, particularly the elimination of sorting and exploitation, which she said has significantly improved the learning environment. She assured students and staff of the government’s commitment to adequate admissions and accommodation.
In his remarks, the Rector, Engr. Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, thanked the Alex Otti-led administration for its consistent support to the institution. He also announced the approval of a new salary structure for staff, adding that implementation and payment would commence next week.
