Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has urged the newly inaugurated Executive Members of the Abia State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to prioritize and pursue the collective interests of the Igbo people.
Governor Otti gave the charge while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Executives of the Abia State Chapter of the Apex Igbo Sociocultural organization held in Umuahia.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, emphasized the need for the Executives to uphold the Igbo agenda at all times.
Governor Otti described leadership within Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a demanding responsibility, highlighting that the leaders are tasked with representing a vast population.
He admonished them to focus on serving the collective interests of Ndigbo rather than pursuing personal ambitions.
The Governor also extended his appreciation to the committee from the National office of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for their efforts in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
He congratulated the newly elected Executives on their emergence and charged them to uphold the values and unity of the Igbo people.
In his remarks, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, leader of the National Committee overseeing the election, noted the need for a new leadership team, given the expiration of the outgoing Executives’ tenure.
He underscored the importance of peaceful selection and inauguration processes, adding that the new Executives would represent the state in the forthcoming election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s global leadership.
The outgoing State President, Okey Paul, reiterated the significance of a peaceful transition and urged the new Executives to prioritize Abia’s interest.
He emphasized that leadership within Ohanaeze Ndigbo is primarily a service to the Igbo people.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated State President, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, pledged to uphold Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s slogan, “Igwe Bu Ike” (Unity is Strength).
He assured that his administration would represent Abia effectively and work to elevate the standing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Other members of the newly inaugurated Executive include the Deputy President, Chika Ibeku; First Vice President, Nnenna Orieji; State Secretary, Innocent Adiele; Publicity Secretary, Godwin Adindu; Assistant Publicity Secretary, Sam Obinna Ibe; among others.
Barrister Amara Onubogu administered the oath of office to the new officials, officially marking the beginning of their tenure.
