President Tinubu Deploys Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, Others To Spain, Greece As Nigerian Ambassadors

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who have been deployed to Spain and Greece respectively.

The appointments, which include 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys, were confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) to commence the induction programme for the ambassadors and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.

According to the statement, several prominent political figures and technocrats were among those appointed as non-career ambassadors.

Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, was posted to Spain, while former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, will serve as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece.

Other notable appointments include former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico, former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, and former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany.

Also on the list are former Senator Ita Enang, who will serve in South Africa; former Lagos State Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro, posted to Australia; and business mogul Jimoh Ibrahim, who will represent Nigeria as Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

In addition, former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Ayodele Oke, was appointed ambassador to France, while former Chief of Naval Staff Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas will serve in the Philippines.

The list also includes several former lawmakers and political figures such as Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Nora Ladi Daduut to South Korea, and Barrister Chioma Priscilla Ohakim to Poland.

Among other appointments, Lateef Kayode Are was posted to the United States, Ambassador Joseph Sola Iji to Russia, Aminu Dalhatu to the United Kingdom, and Yakubu N. Gambo to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the President also approved postings for 31 career diplomats to key missions around the world.

Among them are Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica, Ambassador Alexandra Clark-Omeru to Zambia, Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, and Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde to Ghana.

Others include Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris to the Netherlands, Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar to Morocco, Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande to Switzerland, Ambassador Adebayo Emmanuel Ayeni to Belgium, and Ambassador Bello Dogon-Daji Haliru to Thailand.

The presidency disclosed that the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for the High Commissioner-designate, Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved the appointment of Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador to Paris.

It added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated the nominations of the other envoys to their respective host countries and requested agrément in line with diplomatic protocol.

President Tinubu further directed that the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners should begin immediately to prepare them for their assignments representing Nigeria’s interests abroad.
