Plumber, Akpan, Battling Mysterious Neck Growth Cries for Help

Mr. Harry Solomon Akpan, a 32-year-old professional plumber and bush fabricator, is appealing to the public for financial support to help diagnose a severe health condition that has crippled his mobility and daily life.

Originally from Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Akpan was once a promising student of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) but had to drop out in his third year due to financial difficulties and health-related issues. Determined to survive, he learned plumbing and bush fabricating, establishing himself as a skilled artisan in Umuahia, Abia State, where he currently resides at F-Line, Agbama Housing Estate.

However, his efforts to live a stable life have been threatened by a progressive growth at the back of his neck, which began a few years ago and has worsened over time. The condition has left him increasingly weak, often falling while standing or walking, unable to lift heavy items, and no longer able to work or support himself.

On December 25, 2024, Mr. Akpan’s condition became critical, prompting an emergency visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia. Despite a series of laboratory tests, doctors could not determine the root cause of his illness. He was subsequently referred to a neurosurgeon who recommended an MRI scan to gain a clearer diagnosis.

The MRI scan, however, comes at a cost of ₦250,000, a sum Mr. Akpan cannot afford, having already exhausted his finances on previous tests and treatments. With each passing day, his strength declines, and he is now completely dependent on others for his basic needs.

He is now calling on well-meaning Nigerians, NGOs, and public-spirited individuals to assist him financially so he can undergo the recommended MRI scan and take a step toward possible recovery.
