The Head of Communication for Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), Olubukola Elevbare has dismissed claims that the company’s staff are involved in the vandalization of electrical equipment in Rivers State.
She addressed the issue during an interview with our reporter, following allegations that PHED staff were harassed by security personnel in Ozuoba for allegedly attempting to steal items from transformers.
Clarifying the situation, PHED’s Head of Communication, Mrs. Erewari, explained that some individuals involved in such activities impersonate PHED employees, while others are former staff members with electrical expertise. She stated that these ex-employees might collaborate with community members to engage in vandalism.
“Our staff do not vandalize. However, we acknowledge that there are people who impersonate our workers and some former employees with technical knowledge who may connive with community members to steal from transformers,” she said.
Mrs. Erewari urged the public to provide concrete evidence if they suspect any PHED staff involvement in such acts. She emphasized that the company strongly opposes vandalism and will not tolerate such behavior within its workforce.
“If you strongly believe a PHED staff member is involved, please bring forward the evidence, and I will personally investigate and ensure appropriate action is taken,” she assured.
