The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, has called on Information Officers to improve how government programmes and policies are communicated to the public. He emphasized that timely and accurate information is key to ensuring that citizens understand the work of the government.
Speaking at a meeting with Information Officers at the ministry’s conference hall, Sir Onwuegbu said officers must showcase the achievements of the Alex Otti-led administration with confidence, professionalism, and responsibility. He stressed that clear communication helps build trust between the government and the people.
Sir Onwuegbu also highlighted the importance of exposure and experience for journalists. He noted that a journalist who is well-traveled and informed can produce higher-quality work and more effectively promote government initiatives.
He further advised officers to remain committed, reliable, and dedicated to their duties. According to him, a strong sense of responsibility is essential for delivering information that accurately reflects government policies and programmes.
The State Director of Information, Lady Chika Orji Nwoke, urged officers to consistently submit their reports, including daily mood and intelligence updates. She warned that lateness and absenteeism would no longer be tolerated, stressing that discipline is crucial in public service.
The Director of Film and Archives, Rev. Ken Kezie, encouraged officers to maintain a positive attitude at all times. He explained that an officer’s mood and outlook directly affect their work performance. He also offered prayers for their growth and success in their careers.
In her closing remarks, the Welfare Chairman, Miss Chidinma Enyinnaya, thanked the Permanent Secretary and his team for their guidance and support. She assured that Information Officers would continue to work diligently to support the people-oriented administration of the Governor.
