…No one should take our meekness for weakness
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party agreed to extend the tenure of the Party Executive Committees in the states that their tenure expired, without inclusion of new names.
Governor Fubara disclosed this on Thursday at the flag-off of the construction of Port Harcourt International Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Centre, KM 17, Elelenwo/Rumukrushe, Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The governor hinted that the Party National Executive Committee will hold a meeting on April 18 to ratify the extension given to the existing States EXCOs as caretaker committee from the affected states, adding that the extension is for three months.
“We had a meeting and agreed that not just in Rivers State, but in all the states affected that their Executive Committees should be extended for 3 months. This extension did not include new names.”
“The extension also did not say that they are working without the authority of the Governor. So, for those lists you saw and those ones altered, I can assure you that it will not stand.”
He emphasised that what is being displayed is a sign of desperation by people who want media hype and are quite empty, and enjoined party faithfuls not to be worried by the list making the rounds.
“You can see how restless they have been. We will continue to make them restless. They won’t know where we are coming from. So, please, for those of you that are worried this morning, when you saw those things flying, just discard them.”
Sir Fubara said the flag-off of the Port Harcourt International Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Centre is a fulfillment of his campaign promises to the people, stressing that the project is another significant impact in the state.
“We are a government that believes in the well-being and growth of our state. Genuinely not because we own businesses here, but because we are interested in the growth of Rivers State.”
The governor charged the host communities to support the effort and promote its development as it will boost the economy of the area and by extension improve the revenue base of the state.
He noted that his desire to choose peace is because no society can progress without peace and his genuine love for the state .
“It is not a mistake to choose peace, it is because our love for this state is genuine. Continue to tow the path of peace, even while we do so, we will not allow anybody or group to take our meekness for weakness.”
Governor Fubara assured that his administration will continue to do things that will promote and bring honour to the State and urged the people to always stand for what is right even if it means standing alone.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Dr. Tonte Davies commended the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara for initiating significant projects like the Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Centre amongst other life touching projects in the state.
He noted that besides the economic benefits of the project, it will also restore sanity in the conduct of auto mechanics and spare parts business in the state capital, adding that when completed the Centre will tackle the menace of littered spare parts and mechanic shops in the city and adequately restore the pride of the Garden City status of the State.
Describing the project, the Managing Director of GOSH Project Nigeria Limited, Jeff Ayi Oko noted that the Centre is a one-stop shop for automobile spare parts and mechanic shops that will encompass other business activities. He listed the facilities to include 10,000 lock up shops, 50 industrial warehouses, 25 banking facilities, 25 plazas, ultra modern shopping complex, hotel facilities amongst others.
