Parents advised to care for their male child

The wife of Akwa Ibom State governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, has called on parents to care more for their male children by listening to their needs and counseling them when necessary.
Mrs Emmanuel stated this at the unveiling of the boy child project anchored by the association of wives of permanent secretaries Akwa Ibom state which was held in Uyo.
The governor’s wife who was represented by the chairman state basic education board Mrs Maria Ikrok noted that so far much attention has been accord to the girl child with less emphasis on the boy child, the governor’s wife advised the boy child to shun rape, drug abuse, discrimination, and show respect to elders and to be obedience to their parents.
Mrs Emmanuel said she will continue to care for both the girl child and the boy child needs.
The deputy governor of Akwa Ibom state Mr Moses Ekpo who was represented at the occasion by Mrs Ekaette Ekanem said as fathers of tomorrow the male child should be encouraged to live a Godly life.
He said it was the primary responsibility of parents to give children good up bringing while the church and the society at large will not be left out.
While welcoming guests at the occasion, the president association of wives of permanent secretaries, Mrs Unyine Prince Okon said the boy child project is in support of the governor’s wife project of promoting good family life value, she said the aim of the project is to encourage parents and the society at large to focus attention in the grooming of a boy child and inculcating in them sound moral value for a better future.
The association’s president reason that when a boy child is given a good moral foundation the girl child will not be harassed, she said when the boy child is given needed up bringing the society will be free from armed robbery, kidnapping, drug abuse, cultism and other social values.
She urged parents to strike the skill of balance in the attention given to the male child as well as female child.
High point of the occasion was the unveiling of the boy child project by the head of Akwa Ibom state civil service, Elder Effiong Esien.
