Otti promises to rebuild burnt Ehere timber market

 

Following a recent fire incident that gutted some sections of the Ehere Timber Market, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has assured government commitment to rebuild the market to standard.

 

Governor Otti disclosed this, when he visited the market to assess the level of damage done to the market, as a result of the fire outbreak.

 

National Ambassador gathered that the fire was believed to have originated from the sawdust area, before spreading to other parts of the market, causing extensive damage.

Governor Otti who expressed concern over the devastation caused by the fire, assured that the state government would initiate the process of rebuilding the market.

He assured that the level of damage would be assessed stating that the present state of the market made it susceptible to fire incident.

Gov Otti directed the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Dr Eric Egwuibe, to immediately commences the process towards rebuilding the market and commended the swift response of the Mayor and the Fire Service agency for mobilizing efforts to contain the fire.

He assured that fire extinguishers would be procured and placed strategically in the market to enable traders tackle such outbreaks in the future.


Governor Otti emphasized that his vision was to ensure that traders operate in a conducive environment for trading and assured that government would supporting them to replace their lost goods.

Governor Otti also inspected an accident scene, on the Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba Waterside, involving a trailer loaded with bags of cement.

The accident saw the trailer skppiing off the main road and ramming into a business building.

 

Though no life was lost as the driver of the trailer and his conductor were pulled out of the wrecked vehicle.

The Governor directed the Director General of Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Arch Uche Ukeje, who accompanied him on the visits to liaised with the Police to ensure immediate evacuation of the damaged trailer.
