Otti Funds Overseas Treatment For Injured Soldier Who Rejected Osisikankwu’s ₦50m Bribe

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has approved overseas medical treatment for a Nigerian Army staff sergeant, Simeon “Gunshot” Amoke, in recognition of his role in the neutralization of the notorious kidnap kingpin, Osisikankwu.

 

Governor Otti made the offer on Thursday when he received the soldier at his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area of the State.

 

The Governor pledged that the State Government would bear the full cost of Staff Sergeant Amoke’s treatment to ensure his full recovery.

 

Amoke, who served in Abia State between 2010 and 2014, had sustained life-threatening injuries in a motor accident while on deployment in the North-East, leaving him with broken legs and long-term mobility challenges.

 

Speaking to Journalists after meeting with the Governor, the visibly emotional soldier recounted his ordeal and expressed profound gratitude to Governor Otti for the gesture.

Amoke disclosed that he had faced complications as a result of poor initial medical management adding that despite ongoing treatment efforts by the military, the Governor’s intervention marks a turning point in his recovery journey.

 

Amoke who described Governor Otti as compassionate and attentive, noted that the Governor’s intervention has restored his hope.

He said; “I am so happy, I am so excited that Governor Otti can remember those who fought in Abia State. Such recognition will motivate other military personnel serving in the State and encourage them to remain dedicated and committed to their duties.

 

“Whatever it will cost to restore my health, the Abia State Government has assured me of its full support. They will take care of everything necessary to get me back on my feet.

 

I cannot being happy for Abia State and I remain grateful to the State for remembering me through this thoughtful gesture by a commendable Governor”, he added.

Recounting his role during the anti-kidnapping operations in Abia, Amoke disclosed that he was part of a special assignment to track and dismantle criminal elements across several parts of the State.

 

The Soldier further revealed that the late kidnap kingpin Osisikankwu had attempted to bribe him with ₦50 million to compromise the operation and added that his integrity had ultimately paid off.

 

He noted that the successful elimination of Osisikankwu was widely celebrated and contributed significantly to restoring peace in the State.

 

“I was the officer, they promised 50 million, that I should name my price but I said no. A good job pays, so, you can use mine as an example. That after my good work in Abia state, it’s paying me for now.

“And it’s making way for me, giving me more joy and more happiness. Because if then, I followed what the young man said, today, I may not have a very good name in Abia State.

 

“When we got the glory or the victory (elimination of Osisikankwu), the people celebrated more and today, Abia State can see more peace than before. So I’m so happy” he said.
