Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has announced that the proposed New Abia Smart City project aligns with his vision for the state.
Speaking at a business meeting with a delegation from African Rebirth Vision, a company renowned for building trade, finance, and investment bridges across Africa, Governor Otti expressed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with serious investors to realize the project.
During the meeting, led by African Rebirth Vision’s President and Founder, Engr. Chuka Nwokoro, Governor Otti described the Abia Smart City as a welcome initiative.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to transforming Abia into a digital economy, noting the project as a significant step towards this goal.
Governor Otti also indicated interest in exploring the building technology of the company and assured the delegation that government will deepen discussions with them as to make the proposal a reality.
“I am quite pleased to learn about this vision – Abia Smart City and it ties very well with our own vision”.
“I am also amazed to hear about your building technology where you said you can deliver homes in two to three weeks. That is amazing and it’s something we would like to explore“, Otti said.
He highlighted that the smart city project is currently a top priority, with potential locations identified in Umuahia and Osisioma, Aba and expressed the need for detailed discussions to integrate the company’s proposals with the state’s vision.
“A lot of Nigerians In diaspora had reached out to indicate interest in what we had earlier called Diaspora village, but then, in our reflection, we thought it shouldn’t be restricted to the diaspora community. So, we changed the concept.
“What we will now do is to sit down with you to see how we can marry what you have brought with what we have“, Gov. Otti stated.
The Founder, African Rebirth Vision, Engr. Chuka Nwokoro, in his speech earlier, highlighted Abia’s economic potential due to its numerous mineral deposits.
He mentioned that African Rebirth Vision has conducted a comprehensive survey of the state’s resources and is prepared to assemble leading global companies as partners to deliver the project.
Nwokoro pointed out that their company, which built the Sam Mbakwe Airport 34 years ago, is well-equipped to develop the new Smart City for Abia.
Nwokoro commended Governor Otti for attracting international attention to Abia’s investment opportunities within just one year in office and assured that with land and security provided, the company would be able to execute the project as proposed.
The delegation included notable figures such as Dr. Khodr Akil, President of Smartmatic, and Terra Dlier, a development partner from the United States, among others.
