Abia state governor Dr Alex Otti has charged youth corp members deployed to the state to avail themselves of the abundant opportunities in the state and acquired practical skills that would help them later in life during this their period of national service.
Represented by the deputy governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, Dr Otti made the charge during the swearing in ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream 11 of the Corps members, Otti noted that his administration are working closely with NYSC management to ensure that their service year were productive and fulfilling.
In his word,”my administration will provide the requisite enablement for you to effectively discharge your mandate.”
Dr Otti further noted that corps members are critical partners in the state’s national transformation efforts and that the new Abia project blueprint focuses on institutional and structural reforms, sustained economic growth and development
He therefore urged them to make worthy contribution to the development of their host communities while promising his administration would create a safe and enabling environment that fosters innovation.
“I encourage you to be creative, innovative, and proactive in identifying solutions to the challenges facing our society.”he said.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman, NYSC state
Governing Board, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba noted that the Abia state government places a high premium on hard work and excellence and therefore rewards exemplary performances and outstanding contributions by corps members
He therefore urged them that as they take their oath of allegiance, they should aim at rendering selfless service to Abia state in particular and the nation at large.
Earlier in her address, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Gladys Adama appreciated the governor through his deputy for gracing the occasion, the ongoing rehabilitation at the Orientation camp and for providing the needed enabling environment for corps to thrive in the state.
She also prayed to the governor to help in the rehabilitation of their state secretariat, which she noted was in bad shape.
She disclosed that the orientation course programme would involve skill acquisition, entrepreneurship development programme, physical fitness among others designed to equip the corpers adequately for the task of nation building and the challenges that lie within and ahead of them during the service year and therefore urged the corpers to participate in all the activities .
The event featured a march parade and contest by the corp members and was attended by the State Chief Judge, Army state commandant, among others
