Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed appreciation to the Supreme Court of Nigeria for its landmark ruling affirming that the leadership of political parties is an internal affair over which the Court has no jurisdiction.
Governor Otti made the remark, Tuesday, during a visit by the leadership of the Labour Party in the State, led by the Acting Chairman, Sir Emmanuel Otti, who presented a Coaster bus acquired in the name of the State Chapter of the Labour Party .
The Governor praised the State party leadership for their resilience and commitment to repositioning the Labour Party in Abia, despite the challenges faced in recent months.
He expressed gratitude to God for resolving what he described as the “confusion in the party”, which had stemmed from lower court rulings that enabled some individuals to lay false claims to leadership positions within the party.
“I want to also thank God for finally putting to rest the confusion that was created in the part.
“I will also use this opportunity to thank the Supreme Court for boldly declaring that the party leadership is an internal affair of the party. And once the party has taken a decision, the court does not have the jurisdiction..
“All the people that procured the lower court judgments, declaring themselves one thing or the other in the party, the Supreme Court has put that to rest. The ownership of the part has reverted back to the stakeholders and members of the party”, the Governor said.
Governor Otti who revealed that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party would meet with stakeholders to decide the way forward, commended the State leadership of the party for being proactive and self-reliant, describing the purchase of the bus as a laudable effort.
“I will like to thank the leadership of the party in the State. I can say that, this is what Labour Party should be like. Instead of being a liability to the Government, the Party is actually an asset and is able to task itself to procure a big bus like this to ease the movement of members of the party.
“So, I want to congratulate you and thank you for this feat. I also want to thank everyone who contributed in one way or another to procure this bus. If you had approached me, I would have also made my own little contribution”, he stated.
Earlier, while presenting the bus, the Acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia, Sir Emmanuel Otti, commended the Governor for his impactful governance.
He emphasized that the current leadership of the party is focused on building a solid structure and not on mismanaging resources.
He expressed the members’ delight over the acquisition of the Coaster bus, which he said was purchased in the party’s name, and thanked Governor Otti for his leadership and unwavering support.
