The people of Oru-Oboro Autonomous Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have announced dates for their 2025 New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji), a celebration deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of their forefathers.
According to the festival committee, this year’s edition will run from Monday, September 22 to Saturday, September 27, 2025, with the grand finale taking place on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Eze’s Palace, Onyerubi I, Ndoro-Oboro, beginning at 12 noon.
Speaking on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Eze Ralph U. Ogbonna (KJW), Onyerubi I of Oru-Oboro, the organizers said the festival is not only a thanksgiving for harvest but also a platform to promote unity, progress, and cultural pride among the people.
The event promises colorful displays of tradition, cultural performances, and communal feasting, as the ancient kingdom welcomes indigenes and visitors to join in the celebration.
In an invitation jointly signed by Committee Chairman, Super High Chief Engr. Kenneth I. Ebillah (KJW), Ogankwu I of Oru, and Committee Secretary, Chief Engr. Kelvin N. Udensi (PhD), Kpakpando I of Oru, the organizers called on youths, women, and men of the community to uphold peace and harmony as they celebrate their cultural heritage.
