Organized labour unions accused of betrayal

Civil society groups has accused organized labour unions of betrayal.

A representative of one of the groups in Rivers State, Enefa Georgewill said Labour betrayed the trust of Nigeria workers with the suspension of the planned strike and protest. 

 

Mr Enefa Georgewill also said that it is a simple Labour aristocracy that has sold out Labour. He said a day action at least would have sent the needed signal to the Federal Government. He advised Labour not to discuss in a way that will put the organization to ridicule or disadvantage. He also revealed the lesson learnt so far concerning this.

 

” The biggest lesson for us all in all of this is that, Nigerians should learn how to organize with labour. But more importantly, learn how to organize and strike even without Labour leaders”

Similarly, spokes person of the Civil Society Organization in Edo State Osazie Odika told our reporter that continues suspension of protest by organised labour,shows that they are only concerned about themselves and not about the pains been passed through by majority of Nigerians,in the hands of the Federal Government.

 

Mr Osazie Odika revealed that at their level as Civil Society Groups, they are putting in modalities on what approach that will be more appropriate in addressing the issue that have been in concern, which has to do with the increment of pump price and electricity tariffs. Adding that they are trying to ensure that they bring government attention to the pains and anguish it cost the Nigerian masses.

Some Civil Servant in Rivers State who spoke to our reporter also criticised Labour for suspending the protest and strike. They said things are not going well, and with the strike and protest, the wrongs will be corrected. According to them, meetings were held recently, and the strike was suspended. Now they have also suspended the strike after their meeting. It will be right if they know what is happening and what will be their fate.
