Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has received a major boost ahead of the 2027 general election, as the Old Bende Progressive Union has declared its full support for his re-election bid, citing his impressive record of governance and transformative leadership.
The endorsement was conveyed in a communiqué presented to the Governor during a courtesy visit by the Union at the Governor’s country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the Chairman of the Union, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azubuike Udah, and the Chairman of the Bende Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Nzenwata Mbakwe, expressed the group’s resolve to support Governor Otti’s second-term ambition in 2027.
The Union lauded the Otti-led administration for initiating landmark projects, including the Abia International Airport, the Abia Seaport, a Sports City, and an Industrial Innovation Park, projects it said have placed the state firmly on the global development map.
It further commended the State Government’s consistency in the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, describing it as a key factor in improving the quality of life for civil servants, retirees, and local traders.
The group also noted the significant improvement in security across the state under Otti’s leadership, attributing the renewed investor confidence and business inflow to the administration’s efforts in creating a stable environment.
As a mark of appreciation for what they described as outstanding performance in governance, the Union announced plans to organise a Grand Civic Reception in honour of the Governor.
In his response, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Abia and ensuring the state never again relapses into what he termed “regressive governance”.
“Once we reclaim our state and entrench good governance, it will be difficult for anyone to return us to Egypt”, the Governor said.
He thanked the delegation and the people of Abia for their unwavering support, pointing out that good governance transcends political affiliations.
Governor Otti also disclosed plans to host three Super Falcons players, two of whom hail from Abia State and one raised in the state, in celebration of their recent victory in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking to journalists after the visit, the Member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Mr Alex Ikwuechegh, applauded the present administration’s achievements, especially in infrastructure development.
He noted that under Governor Otti, Abia has moved from being “the worst” to “a model of development among the comity of states”.
Ikwuechegh said that no political contender from the Old Bende bloc would vie for the Governorship position in 2027, stating that “There is no vacancy between 2027 and 2031“.
