The Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu says the present administration will continue to appreciate the immense contributions and roles of members of the state chapter of the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors to the peace and developmental narratives of the state through their professional practice.
Sir Oko Chukwu who stated this while declaring open a two day mandatory continuing professional development programme workshop for members of the Nigeria Institutions of Surveyors Abia State Branch held at De – Merit Hotel , Mission Hill, Umuahia noted that the office of the deputy governor saddled with handling interstate and state boundary matters has assiduously worked in close synergy with members of the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors.
The Deputy Governor described the theme of the Mandatory professional development tagged ” Leveraging on modern surviving techniques for efficient service delivery ” as very apt and sgnifcient as it seek among other things to expose Abia Surveyors to modern survey techniques and improve their professional skill in line with international best practices.
He assured of Govt’s willingness to always partner the Nigeria Institution of Surveyors and other reputable professioner bodies for the common good of Abians and Nigerians at large and charged them to remain dedicated to the core values of service, professionalism integrity and commitment in their practice in the various communities and state.
Earlier in his address, the state Chairman of Nigeria Institution of Surveyors, Sir Chris Nwanevu who stated that the programme affords the surveyor opportunity to update his knowledge of surveying acquire skills for the operation, use and minor maintenance of modern survey equipment while encouraging research and ICT developments while the theme was chose to ensure that they acquire the expertise that will enable civil servants and private practicing surveyors key in properly into the Abia State Infrastructural development plan .
Sir Nwanevu said they are partnering the state Govt to provide adequate training for newly employed survey staff in the state ministry of Lands , Survey and Urban Planning and promised to make their services available to the state govt as partners in progress towards the proper development of the state by checking the use of services of quacks in the execution of govt projects.
the Workshop featured presentation of lectures from various resource persons attracted the presence of the permanent secretary, Ministry of Works, Sir Linus Okpuokiri, top govt officials and other stakeholders in the Lands and Survey sector.
