Ohuhu Stakeholders Endorse Otti’s 2027 Ambition, Seek Urgent Intervention On Roads, Others

 

Stakeholders and people of Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State have formally declared their support for the future political aspiration of Governor Alex Otti, stating that his administration has “rewritten the story of Abia State for the better”.

 

 

The endorsement was made during an enlarged solidarity visit by over 2,000 indigenes of Ohuhu to Governor Otti at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

Leader of the delegation and member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, in his speech said the visit was to appreciate Governor Otti for his longstanding relationship with the people of Ohuhu and for his administration’s impactful interventions in the area.

 

He commended the Governor for appointing several sons and daughters of Ohuhu land into key federal and state positions, including Chief Victor Ikeji as Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the Federal Character Commission; Mr Chinenye Mba Uzoukwu as Principal Secretary and Chief Strategist to the State Government and Sir Chris Onwuegbu as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, among othe

 

Chief Aguocha drew the Governor’s attention to critical infrastructure needs in the area, particularly the rehabilitation of the Ohuhu Ring Road and the Okpara Road traversing Amaogwugwu, Umuagu and Ofeme down to Isuikwuato.

He also urged the State Government to revitalise the Ulonna North and South Farm Settlements established by the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr Michael Okpara.

 

 

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event, including a former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; Chief Uzodinma Okpara; and the member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Mr Anderson Akaliro, commended Governor Otti for transforming the Michael Okpara Auditorium into a world-class facility.

The Stakeholders also lauded the administration’s intervention at Ohuhu Community Secondary School and other development projects in the area.

They however highlighted the long-standing water challenges confronting the community and called for the resuscitation of the Ohuhu Regional Water Scheme, appealing for the completion and operationalisation of the Ohuhu General Hospital built by the late Dr Michael Okpara at Umuegwu Okpuala.

Responding, Governor Otti who thanked the people of Ohuhu for the solidarity visit, their endorsement and continued support, also acknowledged the contributions of Chief Onyema Ugochukwu and other leaders of the community.

 

On the water project, the Governor disclosed that the Ohuhu Regional Water Scheme had been captured in the 2026 budget and assured residents that the Umuahia Regional Water Scheme would soon be flagged off for rehabilitation.

He added that work on the Aba Regional Water Scheme had reached about 80 per cent completion.

 

Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring potable water supply across the state, noting that his vision was to return Abia to “the good old days when people had running water in their homes”.

He also promised to look into the Ohuhu General Hospital at Umuegwu Okpuala with a view to putting the facility into proper use and urged the people to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

 

The event, which drew stakeholders from across party lines, featured prayers for the Governor, his family and the State by traditional rulers from Ohuhu and was attended by the permanent secretary ministry of Information Sir Chris Onwuegbu among others.
