Offor Harps On Youth Development As Panacea To Restiveness

 

An illustrious son of Ibeku land and a consummate philanthropist, Chief Kingsley Offor, has harped on the need for meaningful investment to be made on the youth, since they are the future of every society and community.

He said youths can only move away from criminality,as well as, the intake of hard drugs with reference to the recent intake of Crystal Methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘Mkpuru mmiri’, that is currently ravaging the south eastern part of Nigeria, if the development of the youths is treated with utmost priority.

In an interview with newsmen shortly after being awarded the “Pillar of Unity and Peace of Ndume” during the 2021 Ilanka ceremony,held at the Ndume Otuka Community School, Ahiaeke, Umuahia, the Maritime expert, Chief Kingsley Offor, said the pillar of every society is the youth, therefore maximum attention should be given to their development.

According to him, the family is the microcosm of the society and whatever happens in the family whether good or bad, has a way of reflecting on the society, adding that parents should ensure morals are impacted on their children, as it would help them to develop themselves positively, as well as the society.

Chief Offor noted that parents have alot of role to play in the destinies of their children, stressing that when a good character is imbibed on a child, it would help sustain the child all through growth.

He said apart from the roles parents play in the development of a child,the youths have countless roles they play, such as, to discover themselves and perhaps make meaningful contribution to the development of the society.

When these are in place, the Umunna born philanthropist, said it would help nip the bud of youth restiveness across the country.

Reacting to the award given to him,as the pillar of peace and unity in Ndume land, Chief Offor said, he has been contributing immensely to the unity of Ndume land, firstly,through his Annual Ndume Otuka Ibeku Unity Football Competition,a tournament that has discovered several young people, thereby restoring peace to so many communities.

He also disclosed that he has spearheaded and sponsored many educational and infrastructure developmental projects within his community and Ndume at large,most notable among these projects, were the building and equipping of Umuana health centre, procurement and installation of transformers, provision of educational aids and scholarships to various students,as well as,the creation of job opportunities and provision of relief food and monetary support during the incursion of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that he is a typical example of what youths should stand for, revealing that he was not born with a silver spoon, but through hardwork, diligence and eschewing criminality, he was able to succeed and thereafter, contribute his quota to the development of his community.
