Odoh wins Plateau Governor’s cup

Martin Odo of Minna Cantonment Golf Club has emerged winner in the professional category of Plateau Governor’s Cup 2017 Golf Tournament.

Odoh defeated other players with the net score 298 with over 10 gross to emerge winner and went home with the N1. 864 million prize.

The visibly elated and impressed Gov. Simon Lalong increased the prize money from the original N864, 000 meant for the winner of the competition to N1.864 million as an encouragement to the winner and other players.

The runner up was given N700, 000 while third place winner got N500, 000 from the governor.

In the amateur and veteran categories, the winners went home with different gifts including televisions, deep freezers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and water dispensers.

Odoh in his remarks shortly after receiving the prize money dedicated his victory to God the giver of victories.

He said that he had longed for the victory and worked very hard and thanked God that he won.Gov Lalong expressed happiness that the tournament which stopped before he became governor was revived with different golfers trooping to state to compete.

The governor said that his administration will work hard to sustain the existing peace in the state to keeping attracting people to the state.

Tang Dapoet, Captain, Lamingo Golf Club, said that it was the first time the tournament was played on 18 green holes since the club was established in 1968.

He commended the governor and the sponsors for making tournament which took place from 11 to 17 December a huge success.

Several Nigerian youngsters have had breakthroughs in the game of golf, improving Nigeria’s chances of winning major laurels in the sport in future global tournaments.
