The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, received the newly elected executives of Obu Akpakara at his residence in Ohafia, where he reaffirmed the present administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.
Addressing the delegation, Engr. Emetu expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the socio-cultural group for its continued solidarity and support for the state government.
The Deputy Governor clarified that the numerous developmental initiatives being executed by the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti are financed through government revenues rather than borrowed funds.
He emphasized that the government remains transparent in its financial dealings and judicious in the deployment of public resources, noting that fiscal discipline has remained a guiding principle of the administration.
Engr. Emetu stated that the consistent and prompt payment of salaries and pensions has not only restored confidence in governance but has also helped sustain families and stimulate economic activities in communities across the state.
According to him, when workers and pensioners receive their entitlements as and when due, local businesses benefit, household stability is strengthened, and the overall economy records positive growth.
The Deputy Governor reiterated that the primary responsibility of government is to create an enabling environment for citizens and businesses to thrive.
He highlighted ongoing investments in critical sectors including road infrastructure, power supply, and education as key pillars of the administration’s development agenda.
He noted that several road projects are currently being executed across the state, irrespective of whether they fall under federal, state, or local government jurisdiction, stressing that the government’s overriding priority is the wellbeing of the people of Abia.
Engr. Emetu disclosed that significant steps are being taken to improve electricity supply in Ohafia and its environs. He revealed that cable wires and concrete poles are currently being installed for the mounting of a new power grid aimed at providing more stable and reliable electricity to the area.
He expressed optimism that the project would enhance commercial activities, boost small and medium-scale enterprises, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
The Deputy Governor also highlighted the implementation of free and compulsory primary and junior secondary education, alongside the transition to a Smart School education system designed to equip young people with digital skills and modern learning tools. He maintained that the administration is determined to prepare the next generation for global competitiveness, urging community leaders and stakeholders to continue setting positive examples for younger generations.
Earlier in his remarks, the Spokesperson of Obu Akpakara, Mr. Sunday Ndukwe, explained that the delegation visited the Deputy Governor to formally present the newly elected executives to him in his capacity as Patron of the association.
He described Obu Akpakara as one of the largest socio-cultural organizations in the state, comprising members from Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo clans in Abia State, as well as the Edda clan in Ebonyi State, with a strong presence both at home and in the diaspora.
Mr. Ndukwe noted that the association remains committed to philanthropy and humanitarian services, contributing to community development and social welfare initiatives. He further disclosed that the group is mobilizing its members, alongside their families and associates, to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility and democratic participation.
Also speaking, the Eze of Obu Akpakara, Chief Dr. Emma Jesus, commended Governor Otti and his Deputy for what he described as transformational projects across the state. He particularly praised the Umuahia–Abiriba–Ohafia road project, describing it as a major relief to the people of Abia North who had long endured poor road conditions.
According to him, the improvement in road infrastructure has enhanced connectivity, reduced travel time, and facilitated economic activities in the region.
The traditional ruler assured the Deputy Governor of the association’s continued loyalty and support for the administration, pledging that Obu Akpakara would remain a dependable partner in the collective effort to advance development in the state.
Members of the delegation included the Vice President of the association, Mr. John Kalu Dike; the Treasurer, Mr. Okoro Ibe; and other executive members, who reaffirmed their commitment to working with the state government to promote unity, progress, and sustainable development across their communities.
