Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated former Minister of Information and elder statesman, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, on the occasion of his 84th birth anniversary.
In a statement issued on Monday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Professor Oyovbaire as a respected academic and patriotic leader who has made immense contributions to national development and the political growth of Delta State.
He lauded Professor Oyovbaire’s unwavering service to both the state and the nation—particularly in his current role as Chairman of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, and during his tenure as Minister of Information under the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, where he played a pivotal role in shaping public policy and national discourse.
Governor Oborevwori commended Professor Oyovbaire’s enduring relevance in public affairs, highlighting his advisory roles across successive Delta State administrations and his steadfast commitment to good governance, democracy, and intellectual engagement.
According to the Governor, “Professor Sam Oyovbaire is a distinguished scholar and statesman whose experience and wisdom have continued to enrich Delta State and Nigeria at large. His invaluable contributions in political science, governance, and public policy remain a source of inspiration”.
He also praised the elder statesman for mentoring younger generations and for his consistent support for policies that promote peace, unity, and development across the state.
“As you celebrate this milestone,” the Governor added, “on behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes. May God continue to bless you with good health and many more years of impactful service to our dear state and nation”.
