The Delta State Government has reiterated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is making significant strides in the state’s development, delivering tangible projects across various sectors despite criticisms from detractors.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this known during a press briefing in Asaba , recently.
Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Aniagwu emphasized that Governor Oborevwori prefers to respond to critics with visible projects rather than words. He pointed to the governor’s recent inspection of key infrastructure across the state’s three senatorial districts as evidence of this approach.
“When we got to Warri last week during our project inspection, our people were magnanimous in giving us what will become our global response to anyone painting a false picture of the state,” Aniagwu stated.
“In their words, ‘Governor Sheriff Oborevwori dey show workings, nor be chor chor chor,’ meaning it is not about empty talk but real action.”
He detailed the governor’s recent projects to include:
Infrastructure Development: Completion of the twin Ubu bridges on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, which has significantly reduced travel time between Warri and Asaba. Work is also progressing on the Isoko Ring Road, with plans to fast-track its completion.
Education Expansion: Near completion of the College of Health Sciences at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and ongoing projects at the Orerokpe campus, set to welcome students by September 2025. The Omadino Technical College in Warri South is also on track for a September opening.
Healthcare Improvement: Plans to install CT scans at Central Hospital, Warri, Asaba Specialist Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
Urban Renewal: Inspection of stormwater drainage in Warri Township Stadium and three flyovers under construction by Julius Berger, with work progressing on schedule.
Peace and Security: Mediation between the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities over a longstanding land dispute, leading to an agreement for peaceful coexistence.
“Governor Oborevwori is not just commissioning projects, he is ensuring value for money. Any contractor with multiple jobs who cannot meet quality and timeline expectations should forget about getting a new contract,” Aniagwu stated.
He also dismissed opposition criticism, accusing some groups of impersonating ethnic nationalities to push baseless narratives against the government.
“In the midst of all these, Governor Oborevwori will not be distracted. We will not confuse politics with governance,” he assured, adding that more projects would be approved at the next Executive Council meeting.
