Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed for peace and calm among factions within Ogwashi-Uku communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area, following internal land disputes.
The governor made the appeal on Thursday after some Ogwashi-Uku indigenes, led by the President-General of the Ogwashi-Uku Development Union (ODU), Mr. Patrick Osamor, staged a peaceful protest to Government House, Asaba, seeking the state government’s intervention.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct, describing it as in line with the Oborevwori administration’s Enhanced Peace and Security agenda.
“I commend you for conducting yourselves peacefully,” he said.
“Be rest assured, your grievances will be addressed speedily and resolved amicably”, he added.
The governor emphasized that peace and security remain top priorities for his administration, assuring that prompt steps would be taken to resolve the crisis and restore harmony in the community.
Mr. Patrick Osamor, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, alleged that some individuals, including the traditional ruler, were involved in unauthorized land sales, contrary to customary land administration by village chiefs and Diokpa.
“Land grabbers sell lands without Diokpa consent; they have recruited youths into a cartel for nefarious land deals”, Osamor alleged.
