The People of Obingwa Local Government Area yesterday joined other council areas of the state, in hosting the State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in their familiarization tour.
The event which took place at the Council headquarters,Mgboko,in Obingwa Local Government Area, had array of supporters trooping out to witness the grand finale of the party’s familiarization/sensitization tour, as well as show solidarity to the party.
In his address, the Chairman of the Obingwa Local Government Council, Hon Ibe Michael Nwoke, while welcoming the State Working Committee of the party, stated the firm root of PDP in the area, commending the State Chairman and his team for their efforts in sustaining peace and unity in the party.
The LGA chairman further highlighted his numerous achievements in the area, pointing out that the PDP is the only hope of Nigerians and Abians in particular, assuring that the LGA would continue to sustain its support for the party.
Also, the Member representing Obingwa East State Constituency and Majority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Solomon Akpulonu, expressed happiness that the party rounded up its tour with the Obingwa Local Government, being the seat of power. He stated that Obingwa is PDP and would continue to keep the flag flying. ” Come 2023, we will give PDP more than 82,000 votes. No other significant party is in Abia”.
In their separate speeches, some stakeholders of the party in Obingwa, Elder Godwin Nna, Chief Ezinwa Abiri, Elder Erondu Uchenna Erondu, the Obingwa PDP chairman, Hon Seth Agomuo,the Woman Leader, Mrs. Adline Aṅucha, and others, expressed joy over the familiarization exercise, insisting that Obingwa is the stronghold of PDP and thus, is prepared to sustain the record of 100 percent votes to the Party.
In his Speech, the Governor of the State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, while welcoming the party to his Local Government, thanked the PDP leadership in Abia State for her wisdom in going through the 17 LGAs for a familiarization visit, aimed at strengthening the party in the state and described the visit as a way of securing victory for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Reacting to who succeeds him, Governor Ikpeazu stated that power belongs to God, who alone would decide his successor, reminding those interested in the governorship position of the State that leadership is ordained by God, adding that he cannot ordain anyone as Governor of the state.
He said he would meet with the State Working Committee of the party to take a stand on who succeeds him based on reports they have gathered from the 17 LGAs of the State, urging everyone to ensure they obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards, as it is their power to vote.
In his speech, the State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere,
explained that their vision in embarking on the familiarization tour is to make the party stronger ahead of the forthcoming elections and applauded Governor Ikpeazu for giving the party evidence in form of projects to campaign with.
The State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, who had earlier joined the Governor for project inspection, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done at the third Phase of Eziukwu and Omuma road projects, being executed by the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s led administration, expressing the confidence of the party on the Governor, for delivering on his campaign promises to the people of the State especially the residents of Aba.
While receiving a good number of decampees from the APC and APGA in the state, the Party chairman, assured the new members of fairness, promising to carry them along and accommodate them in whatever they do.
Meanwhile, the people of Ahiaba la Abayi bloc in Obingwa West State Constituency, have called on the leadership of the party to give the ticket of the House of Assembly seat to the bloc or stand to loose election in the area.
The people who registered their displeasure while interacting with the Press, said the Mgboko/Mgboko bloc of Obingwa West,has withheld the House of Assembly seat for 24 years, saying enough is enough to the marginalisation, calling for equity and justice to play out come 2023.
