A former All Progressive Congress (APC) Stalwart in Abia, Dr Chidi Nwankpa has dumped the party and joined People Democratic Party (PDP).
Nwankpa who was received by the PDP chairman lkwueke West ward, Mr Amamchi Nwankwo among other party faithfuls and stakeholders at Ohanso Ndoki, Ukwa-East Abia state, disclosed that the protracted crisis, disharmony and entrenched divisiveness in Abia APC informed his decision to dump the party.
Nwankpa maintained that PDP Idealogy and the urgent need to align in order to produce Effective Leadership at all levels in Abia and Nigeria endeared him to join PDP.
Speaking at the event in Ohanso, Ndoki Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Abia state, the Sole Administrator, Abia State Oil Producing Areas (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley who congratulated Nwankpa for joining PDP, described him as a man of immense capacity that would enhance the party’s fortune.
The former Federal lawmaker further described APC as a sinking ship that has brought untold hardship to Nigerians in the past seven years, insisting that with Chief Chris Nkwonta, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa, Chief Ugochukwu Nduwuisi among others now in PDP, opposition no longer exist in Ukwa-East LGA.
Meanwhile, the PDP chairman, lkwueke west ward, described Dr. Nwankpa as one of the strong politicians in Ukwa East, and Abia state, adding that his entrance into PDP would advance the fortune of the party in a great measure come 2023 general elections.
He promised to give Nwankpa a level playing ground and extend all privileges of the party to him.
Contributing, the 2023 PDP Flagbearer for Ukwa Federal Constituency, Chief Chris Nkwonta described Nwankpa as an asset to the party, assuring the party that the Marketing Consultant would bring his wealth of experience to bear come 2023 general Elections.
In their separate remarks, the Abia state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Tony Nwamuo, former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Chief Reginald Ezenta, former Executive Director, Abia State Mass Literacy, Elder Godfrey Akara, the PDP flagbearer for Ukwa-East State Constituency, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, the PDP Vice Chairman, Ikwueke West Ward, Mr. Ndubueze Akarahu, Former Education Secretary, Ukwa East LGA, S. P. Ogbonna, Comrades Paul Udechukwu, Chiwuike Ekeke and Kingsley Okadigbo Nna promised to extend all party privileges to Nwankpa while urging him to use his capacity to help the party deliver PDP candidates at all levels come 2023 general elections.
Highlight of the event is the handing over of PDP card to Dr. Nwankpa by the party stakeholders Ukwa-East LGA.
Dr. Nwankpa joined APC in August 2017 and he is currently a Member of the Governing Council of National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and a House of Assembly Aspirant for Ukwa East State Constituency in 2018/2019 and 2022/2023 respectively.
