Nutrition Insecurity: Rivers Govt Calls For More Actions

The Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board has expressed worries over the increasing prevalence of malnutrition among children, emphasizing the need for early intervention to prevent irreversible damage.

According to the body, malnutrition is not only a health issue but also a social and developmental concept, as it directly impacts the future potential of young ones in the state.

In their words: “More than just hunger, malnutrition stems from a lack of essential nutrients crucial for children’s growth, development, and overall health. Over time, this condition can lead to severe illnesses and leave long-lasting effects on a child’s physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.”

They urged parents and caregivers to prioritize their children’s nutrition, pointing out that simple measures such as proper nutrition and regular screenings could make all the difference in a child’s growth. “Early intervention is key,” the spokesperson added. “We must act now to ensure our children are nourished and given the best chance to thrive.”
