The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of 5 academic programmes in the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike.
The programmes are: BSc. Accounting, BSc. Marketing, BSc. Banking and Finance, BSc. Business Administration and BSc. Economics.
In a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, signed by the Ag. Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Abubakar M. Girei, the Executive Secretary of NUC,granted the approval for the establishment of the programmes after he considered the report of a team of experts who visited the University recently for verification of the human and material resources for the programmes.
The letter reads in part: “I am pleased to inform the Vice-Chancellor, that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of study for the following programmes to be run in the main campus of the University with effect from the 2024/2025 session”.
It may be recalled that the Federal Government in 2016 directed the University to delist all programmes that were not part of their original academic mandate.
Although the University complied immediately then, it continued to argue that those programmes were allied to agriculture as they can help farmers to understand management aspects of their harvests.
In a Press Release signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the School, Ubadire Agua, Ph.D, said kudos must be given to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe for the feat, which was a result of his dedication, superior argument, vast network and commitment to the vision of transforming MOUAU to an entrepreneurial Agricultural University.
