No Army official was beheaded, says Gen.Hassan

The Commander, 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Abdu Hassan, has appealed to journalists in the country to be fair, objective and factual in the coverage of military activities.

Hassan who stated this Thursday in his office in reaction to a media report that militants beheaded a soldier in Etim Ekpo in Akwa Ibom State urged journalists to investigate their stories and come out with facts.

The commander said nothing of that nature took place in the state.

He further appealed to journalists not to endanger national security in their reports, stressing that journalists should always cross check facts before publication especially on security matters.

“Journalism is not about fiction but facts. We should not endanger national security in our reportage.

“We cannot hide anything especially in this computer era where information travels with the speed of light.

“For the sake of God you have to be as objective as possible,” he said.

The Commander, who promised to work with the media in the activities of the Brigade also commended journalists for the risk they take in the performance of their duties.
