Chukwuemeka Egejuru
It was a gathering of the best of minds in our society. Intellectuals from different tertiary institutions, religious body, political class and the corporate world were visibly present. It could have passed for a convocation ceremony because of the array of professors that graced the occasion.
Indeed, the dinner/merit award night organised by the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, NIMN, Port Harcourt chapter, Rivers State recently, lived up to the byline of the Association, which is, creating value. This value was also experienced in a serene ambience.
In his remark, the Director of the Institute of International Trade and Development at the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Sylva Ezema Kalu, who was the Chairman of the occasion, commended the qualitative leadership of the NIMN, Port Harcourt chapter, for its efforts in sustaining the goals of the Association.
He noted that the various measures put in place by the government to check the spread of the COVID-19 had took its toll on Marketing, but also exposed the huge potential of digital marketing, adding that the Association leveraged on internet and the social media to carry on with its activities.
In his speech, the Chairman of the NIMN, Port Harcourt chapter, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa expressed gratitude to God that the Association did not lose any member to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He expressed satisfaction that the Chapter stands tall among the comity of professional bodies in Port Harcourt.

On the awards, Nwankpa said that it was not only registered members of the Association that qualified, but others also, who had made enormous contributions to the growth of Marketing profession in Nigeria, adding that the essence was to encourage the awardees for helping the Institute grow.
The highlight of the occasion was the merit award to eight distinguished Nigerians, among whom were; Prof. Sylva Ezema Kalu, who was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Mrs Ngozi Kalu, Dr. Samuel B. Kalagbor, Dr. Princess Henrietta Ingo Ogan and Mr. Ojugbeli Martins Ikechukwu.

Others were; Dr. Godswll Chinedu Chukwu, Hon. (Barr.) Anthony E. Nwamuo, Brother Emmanuel Oghenekome Ogidi, and Mr. Chijioke Wamadi Ejilemele.
Prominent among the guests were, Prof. Onyekachi Amadi, who represented the Vice Chancellor of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Prof. Continue Eketu of the department of Management Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, the the President-General Ndoki Union, Rev. Dr. Felix Akara and Prof. Barisua Fortune Nwinee, Dean, School of Graduate Studies, University of Port Harcourt.
Also present were, Prof. Ijeoma Kalu, Deputy Director, University of Port Harcourt Business School, Prof. Chima Onuoha, Department of Management, University of Port Harcourt, the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission, represented by the South South Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Chinwe Okoroji, Hon. Dr. Innocent Barikor, former member, Rivers State House of Assembly, Regional Operations Director of Airtel, Mr. Dapo Dosumu and the Zonal Director, Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, Port Harcourt Network Centre, represented by Mrs. Evelyn Nwosu.
