NIGERIAN WINNERS OF THE ENGLISH FA CUP

As Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, alongside their Leicester City teammates battle Chelsea in the English F. A. Cup final, here are Nigerians that have had the privilege to win the FA Cup.

DANIEL AMOKACHI

Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi

Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi is the first Nigerian to win the FA Cup with Everton in 1995. He came on as a 69th minute substitute as the Toffees defeated Manchester United by a lone goal.

CELESTINE BABYARO

Celestine Babayaro played full time for Chelsea when the Blues clench the trophy in 2000. Roberto Di Matteo scored the winner against Aston Villa.

KANU NWANKWO

PAPILO

Papilo as the lanky striker is fondly called won three FA Cup titles. He won twice with Arsenal in 2002 and 2003 and with Portsmouth in 2008. Nwankwo scored the only goal of the 2008 final against Cardiff City and was named ‘Man of the Match’.

JOHN UTAKA

Utaka ‘The Attaker’ was Papilo’s teammate when Portsmouth won the FA Cup in 2008.  Utaka played for 69 minutes.

JOHN MIKEL OBI

The most successful Nigerian in the FA Cup is John Mikel Obi. He won four titles with Chelsea in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Alex Iwobi

In 2007, Iwobi won the FA Cup with Arsenal, when the Gunners defeated Chelsea 2-1.
