The Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) has applauded the developmental strides of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, particularly in the healthcare sector, within less than two years in office.
The commendation was made by the Chairman, Abia State chapter of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr. Ogbonna Onyedikachi, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, at the Government House, Umuahia.
Dr. Onyedikachi expressed appreciation for the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare services, citing the renovation and retrofitting of General Hospital facilities across the state as a significant achievement.
She also emphasized the need for collaboration between NOA and the State Government to enhance eye care services in these facilities.
“We commend the efforts of the Abia State Government in prioritizing healthcare, particularly in the renovation and retrofitting of General Hospital facilities across the state.
“We believe that our association can collaborate with the State Government to strengthen eye care services in these facilities”, she stated.
The NOA chairman further sought government support for the association’s 48th International Annual Conference, scheduled to take place from July 23rd to 26th, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
In his response, Pastor Ajagba commended NOA for choosing Abia State as the host for the prestigious event, describing it as a “worthwhile choice”.
Pastor Ajagba highlighted Governor Otti’s achievements in the Healthcare Sector, including the establishment of the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau and the retrofitting of hospitals among others.
“In the Primary Healthcare Sector, we have a total of 948 primary health centers, and in the first phase, about 200 of them are being retrofitted. Within 100 days, they will all be ready for commissioning”, he said.
Pastor Ajagba assured the delegation that Governor Otti is committed to ensuring the success of the conference and the welfare of the over 2,000 expected delegates.
“We have listened to quite a number of things that you asked for, the assistance that you need in order to make sure that the over 2000 delegates that you are expecting are well taken care of.
“Of course His Excellency is committed to that , and I want to assure you that every necessary support that will enable you have a very productive international conference, the support will be made available to you.
“Working with the Senior Special Assistant, who is also your member, I believe that the right structures will be put in place to make sure it works”, Pastor Ajagba stated.
He further assured the delegation of the State’s security, noting that Abia remains a safe destination for visitors and conference participants.
“Security is not to be taken for granted, but Abia is quite safe. As you move around, you will see that there is no cause for alarm,” he added.
