Nigerian Army Reopens Umuokpara-Onuimo Road After Attack On Soldiers, Relocates Checkpoint

 

The Nigerian Army has reopened the Umuokpara-Onuimo road for public use after days of restriction following an attack last week on three of its personnel by unidentified gunmen.

 

 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah Rtd, led the team comprising the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, Major General H.T. Dada, the Brigade Commander of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General Olusola Diya, and other Senior Military Officers to visit the scene of the incident.

 

 

Navy Commander Ubah, who spoke to Newsmen after the inspection, revealed that the team resolved to relocate the military checkpoint closer to the Onuimo River to provide a clearer line of sight and improve security measures.

He explained that the previous checkpoint location, situated in a built-up area, had hindered the military’s ability to respond effectively to the attack.

 

 

The Governor’s Aide commended the cooperation of the Traditional Ruler of Ezeleke Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Ibeakanma, and other Community Leaders who facilitated the relocation process.

 

 

He further revealed that the Community Members haven recognized that ensuring safety is a collective responsibility, have volunteered to clear the new checkpoint area and pledged to share relevant security information

Navy Commander Ubah urged the public to continue supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in their efforts to combat the emerging security challenges in the state.

 

 

The Commanding Officer of 145 Battalion, Umuahia, Major Martin Domkat, and other senior military officers were part of the GOC’s entourage during the inspection.
