Nigeria risks losing American aid over Jerusalem vote

Nigeria risks losing American aid for voting against US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

On Thursday, Nigeria voted along with 127 other countries that voted against Trump’s position at the UN general assembly.

The New York Times reported Trump as saying before the vote : “All of these nations that take our money and then they vote against us at the Security Council or they vote against us, potentially, at the Assembly, they take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then they vote against us.”

“Well, we’re watching those votes,” he added.

“Let them vote against us; we’ll save a lot. We don’t care.”

It is still not clear yet how Trump is going to carry out his threat, given that some of the aids are mandates from the congress.

Nigeria currently enjoys American aid in military and economic sectors.
