As Nigeria marks its 60th Independence Anniversary, a call has gone to the leadership of the country to evolve a virile philosophy to tackle unemployment among youths.
The Provost, Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu, Dr. Phillip Nto, who made the call while speaking in a telephone interview with National Ambassador, stressed the need for continuous development of technical and vocational education to be made part of the school curricula in tertiary institutions with a view to tackling the unemployment rate in the country.
Ntoh commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for introducing Education For Employment (E4E) maintaining that it is the way to go especially with the current economic realities.
Assessing the journey so far, Ntoh regretted that at 60, the nation is still battling with marginalization and lopsided appointments and called for strict adherence to Federal character as well as the need for a review of the Nigerian constitution to allow for true federalism.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Abia State Governor on Social Investments, Mr. Chinenye Nwogu called on the leaders to evolve a virile philosophy to tackle unemployment among youths.
He pointed out the need for leaders to conduct a collective
reflection on ways of improving education in addition to food security noting that experts have predicted that the nation’s population would double in the next 30 years and advised Government to prepare ahead of time to avert impending doom.
“Alot of attention needs to be paid to our young people. We have a lot of cries coming from that angle. Alot of our young people are leaving school, growing up without something to look forward to.
“Our leaders need to sit down and talk about our young ones and what the future holds for them. We need to plan for them because statistics shows that in the next 30 years, Nigeria population is going to topple so what are you going to feed that population if there are no job opportunities?.
“We have no choice other than to make this place the way we want it to be”,Nwogu said.
He therefore canvassed for national unity and sustainable democratic culture urging leaders to build an egalitarian society where equity, justice, peace and unity would reign.
