The Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Chibuzo Opoko, has spit out fire, saying the nation has nothing to show for its 59th anniversary, calling for a solemn assembly.
In a chat with our reporter, the Archbishop, said Nigerians can only celebrate because they are alive to witness the 59th anniversary of the state and not because the nation has recorded great feat at 59.
He said the country has recorded a great spill of blood through insurgency, herdsmen attacks and other forms of violence.
The clergy stated that the rate at which security is being challenged in the country is becoming alarming, especially with the politicization of the Fulani herdsmen activities.
Lamenting the decadence in infrastructure, the clergy pointed out that, our age as a nation does not commensurate with the level of development on ground, as eventually all our federal and states’ roads have become impassable with no economic innovation to show forth. He charged our leaders to stop playing dangerous politics but thrive to replicate the same development they see when they travel abroad.
Opoko said Nigeria is still crawling at 59years,even with the impacts made by individuals across the world, disclosing that the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari can not take Nigerian to the next level chorused by the All Progressives Congress(APC).
He said if corruption which is the bane of the society is not tackled and the various oil wells in the country withdrawn from individuals, Nigeria will continue to suffer backwardness.
The Archbishop further stated that the nation should declare a period of mourning and a solemn assembly for Christians and Muslims to seek the face of the God they serve over the current situation of the country.
“Righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach, pastors should repent and turn to God”, he said.
“Today, ministers of God now involve in politics more than party stalwarts, celebrate mediocrity and incompetence, rather than using their pulpit to correct the evil confronting the nation”,Opoko emphasized.
The clergy, however, called on all and sundry to put hands on deck to salvage the nation.
