NHSOBA Holds Maiden Founder’s Day

The Ngwa High School Old Boys held their Maiden Founders’ Day on Saturday 9th December 2023 at the college playground Aba, amidst Pomp & pageantry.

 

In his welcome address during the occasion, the chairman of the Founders Day Celebration Committee Ven. Dr Felix Erondu said part of the reason for organizing the Founder’s Day was to recognize, appreciate and celebrate the founding fathers of the great institution.

 

The founding fathers according to him included members of the Ngwa Educational and Cultural Assembly who raised the funds to build the college. Others included the first principal Rev. G.W Pollard and both the leaders and products of the school who have distinguished themselves  in several fields of endeavours.

 

He said the character of these true ambassador of the school reflect the school’s motto; “Dives Intra” which means “Rich Within”

In his own address the President of the Ngwa High School Old Boys Association, RT Rev Christian  Ugwuzor went back memory lane to recall the history of the college which was founded in 1954, (69 Years Ago) by the people of Ngwa Land via the Ngwa Union and handed over to the Anglican church to nurture and manage.

 

He said since its founding, the school has excelled in academics, Sports, morals and discipline and has produced a large member of human resources in such diverse fields as academics, the professions, politics, bureaucracy, public and civil service. Others includes people who have emerged as successful businessmen and top Government Functionaries such as  the incumbent Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti.

The attendees at the ceremony had plenty of fun as they sang, danced and recalled memories of their youthful exploits during their student’s days in the college.

 

Some of those who received awards included the First Senior Prefect of the School in 1954 who is now an octogenarian Sir John Obasi. Others were the senior prefects of the school from 1961-1972, Ambassador Dr. John Nwaubani, HRH Matthew O. Anaba, Arch Dan Nwankwo, Ven. Prof Nwokocha, Chief Mike Ahamba, Prof Jasper Jombo, Ven Dr. Felix Erondu, Prof Eric Archibong, Prof Udo Herbert, Dr Emeka Wogu,  Major Gen G.A Umelo, AIG Ali Amodu amongst several others.

 

Some of the outstanding teachers who were honoured included HRH Eze Sir, G.E Nwachukwu (KSG), Mr. Ebere Onyebuenyi, Elder Mark C. Ukaegbu, Mrs Bridget Nwankwo, Mr. Oguahamba (Aka Sir JJC), Mr. Friday Ihezuo Nwigwe

The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of the proposed Rev G.W Pollard Memorial Resource Centre which attracted a lot of hefty donations from members of the old Boys Association.
