Newly installed traditional rulers in Abia state have been charged to work in synergy with the state government and evolve ideas that will boost the socio-economic growth of their various communities for increased rural development.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who gave the charge, Tuesday, during the presentation of staff of office to Twenty nine(29)traditional ruler designates from various communities across the state, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia,
urged the newly installed traditional rulers to align themselves with the programs and policies of the state government.
According to the Governor, Abia government is desirous to achieve even socio-economic development across the state.
He urged the newly installed traditional rulers to ensure peace and security in their domains.
Ikpeazu,however, warned the traditional rulers not to engage in any act that would either bring the state’s traditional institution to disrepute or inhibit the progress of the state.
Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs,Gabriel Onyedilefu,
while noting that traditional rulers play a pivotal role in the actualisation of progress, peace and stability of the society, charged them to be law abiding and live up to expectation in the discharge of their duties.

Onyendilefu,said that the event marked the end of a thorough selection process for traditional rulers of autonomous communities whose thrones were left vacant due to death adding that due process in line with the administration’s policy of transparency was adopted during the selection.
Responding on behalf of other newly installed traditional rulers, Eze Okezie Amalaha of Ahiaba Ubi Autonomous Community, thanked the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve and assured that the newly installed traditional rulers would do their best in the discharge of their duties to improve the welfare of their subjects.
