Ndoki Union has described unity of purpose as key to sustainable progress in any the society.
The President-General, Ndoki Union, Rev. Felix Akara who disclosed this during the kick-off of the median Ndoki Unity Cup in Obohia Ndoki, Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Abia State recently, stated that the essence of the competition was to foster unity among Ndoki people as well as engage their youths profitably through sports.
Fielding questions from National Ambassador, Rev. Akara maintained that unity of purpose would drive their collective efforts to building enduring development, adding that an arrangement has been made to harness skillful players that would be discovered in the tournament to ply their football careers in Europe.
He expressed delight that the event has triggered economic activities in Obohia Ndoki and its environs with Ndoki communities participating in the event.
Meanwhile, the Sole Administrator, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley has commended Rev. Akara-led Ndoki Union for instituting Ndoki Unity Cup, adding that it will unify the Ndoki nation, market the hidden sporting potentials among Ndoki youths at the international stage and enhance development in Ndoki land.
In his words: “It is more important that we the Ndokis find things that unifies us than what divides us. If we start from sports especially football as a unifying factor of Ndoki people, sooner it would translate into meaningful development”.
The former Federal Lawmaker charged Ndoki youths to shun drug addiction, hooliganism, cultism among other social vices and take advantage of the competition and market their talents.
Contributing, the Publicity Secretary, Ndoki Union, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa has called on Ndoki people to look beyond the artificial differences which put Ndoki people into three different states, embrace unity of purpose and forge ahead.
“The way we are scattered in three states is not giving any competitive advantage and it is time for the Ndoki nation to unify as one entity despite the boundary injustice done to us. Unity makes us stand stronger”, he added.
Nwankpa who also wooed investors to Ndoki land urged Ndoki youths to toe the historical path of being peaceful and industrious and shun any criminal act, capable of bringing disrepute to the Ndoki land.
In his remark, the Chairman, Organizing Committee, Comrade Obioma George who expressed delight over the smooth commencement of the event, also revealed that 18 teams are participating, while the final match would be played on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Obohia Central School play ground.
Information gathered revealed that Ndoki Land covers an area of about 70,000 square kilometres (29,000 sq mi) and is made up of 42 towns and villages with 27 communities falling into Abia, 14 falling into Rivers State and 1 falling into Akwa Ibom State.
Highlight of the event was the official kick-off of football by the Chairman, Ukwa-East LGA, Hon. Chucks Wabara.
