In a bid to harness youth potentials as well as foster peace and unity among the youth, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is set to commence the 2018 Ohuhu Summer League.
Speaking in a meeting with the Organising Committee members of the 2018 Ohuhu Summer League recently, the Managing Director/CEO of the Commission, Mr. Nsima Ekere, revealed that the annual football competition is targeted at raising sportsmen from the Niger Delta region, as well as projecting the image of the area as a peaceful region.
He stated that the NDDC would not stop in her quest to the continued development of the Niger Delta region both infrastructural and human capacity building.
Also,the President of Niger Delta Youth Peace Builders, Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel, highlighted the expectations during the tournament, stating that there would be prizes for the first and second runner up winners as well as other consolation prizes.
Emmanuel went on to advice the youths participating in this year’s tournament to take advantage of the opportunity given to them by the NDDC for the betterment of their future.
He thanked the commission for giving the youths of the Niger Delta region the opportunity to develop their potentials and enhance their skills.
The Organising Committee chairman for the Ohuhu Summer League, Mr Chika Okiyi, who expressed happiness over the stand of the NDDC to invest in human capacity building, by sponsoring the football competition, said the event would not only help to discover new football stars but also help in engaging the youth of the area meaningfully.
Okiyi further disclosed that the tournament would kick-start on the 16th of September 2018 with the finals scheduled to hold on the 14th of October 2018 at the Central School Field, Umuagu Autonomous Community, Ohuhu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state
