NDDC Reaffirms Support for Niger Delta Security

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security agencies to maintain peace, protect critical national assets, and drive development in the Niger Delta region.

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, to the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the link between security and development, stating, “Without security, communities cannot develop, and where communities are underdeveloped, insecurity is bound to thrive.” He noted that the Commission’s support aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to ensure peace and security nationwide.

Dr. Ogbuku highlighted that ensuring security is a shared responsibility among host communities, the government, and institutions like the NDDC. “We will continue to support the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies to enable them to carry out their duties effectively,” he said, adding that the Commission is committed to providing strategic interventions to ease operational challenges.

Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim commended the NDDC for its impactful interventions across the Niger Delta, describing the Commission’s projects as tangible evidence of development under the current management. He praised Dr. Ogbuku’s dedication and resilience, noting the significant positive impact of NDDC-funded projects in the region.

The Naval Commander also disclosed that the Nigerian Navy recently launched “Operation Sentinel” to support crude oil exploration, production, and transportation. He urged the NDDC to sustain and expand its support, which would help the Navy strengthen its security operations and assist NUPRC in surpassing its production target of 2.5 million barrels per day by 2027.

The NDDC’s continued collaboration with security agencies is aimed at ensuring lasting peace, boosting oil production, and promoting a positive global image of the Niger Delta. The Commission’s commitment to supporting security agencies remains a driving force for development and prosperity in the region.
