People from the oil-rich Niger Delta region say they are not expecting anything good from the forensic audit report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), except if a holistic approach is used.
The national coordinator of the South-South Elders Forum Anab Sara-Igbe told our reporter that he is waiting patiently until the white paper is released to see if those who squander the regions fund would be captured in the report.
Cheif Sara-Igbe further said that so far, president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the most corrupt in Nigeria history.
The national coordinator of the South-South Elders Forum Sira-Igbe said if the money already budgeted for the NDDC, for the development of the region had been judiciously used, the union would have become autorized.
Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe stated that the greatest enemy of the Niger Deltans are the Niger Deltans, beginning from the ministers, the governors, the contractors and even the youths. He blamed the Niger Delta people for neglecting the plight of the people when in position.
He further explained that Niger Delta governors are taking 13% generation on behalf of oil bearing communities, yet the oil bearing communities are still suffering without hospital, water, electricity, schools and social abilities.
He further blamed the Niger Delta people for neglecting the plight of the people, when in position.
However, a civil rights advocate Opunabo Nko-Tariah challenged president Muhammadu Buhari to prove his critics wrong by ensuring a holistic prosecution of all persons indicted by the misappropriation of the NDDC fund.
He said some prominent members in the present administration who were allegedly indicted for corruption are yet to be prosecuted . He advised the president to ensure that all those involved are prosecuted including those awarded contracts that refused to execute the contract.
Mr Nko-Tariah also said that having the NDDC and the Niger Delta Ministry at the same time those not make any sense, adding that the real enemies are the moles appointed to manage the NDDC but who see it as an opportunity to enrich their pocket.
