NAWOJ FCT Moves to Partner Polish Embassy on Women Empowerment

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has initiated moves to establish a strategic partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nigeria aimed at strengthening women empowerment initiatives in the country.

This development was disclosed when the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Bassey Ita-Ikpang, led members of the association on a courtesy visit to the Polish Ambassador in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Ita-Ikpang expressed the association’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the Embassy to advance programmes that promote women’s development and professional growth.

She revealed that the association has lined up activities to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, including a Market Place Advocacy scheduled for March 26 and a Capacity Building Workshop for Female Journalists on March 27.

According to her, the partnership with the Polish Embassy would enhance the impact of these initiatives and further strengthen advocacy efforts targeted at women and vulnerable groups.

The Chairperson described NAWOJ FCT as a professional body comprising over 350 female journalists within the territory, dedicated to promoting responsible journalism, capacity building, and advocacy for women, children, and marginalized communities.

She further appreciated the Polish government’s efforts in deepening bilateral relations and cultural exchange with Nigeria.

In his response, the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, expressed the Embassy’s readiness to collaborate with NAWOJ FCT and support its programmes.

Cygan assured that the Embassy would provide support through training initiatives and exchange programmes, particularly in areas that promote women’s participation in political leadership and increase their visibility in governance.

He emphasized that the proposed collaboration aligns with Poland’s commitment to development cooperation, cultural exchange, and social progress in Nigeria.
