Muslim faithfuls observe Jumat service to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
As part of activities to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, a Jumat service was held at the Mopo Central Mosque on Bende Road, Umuahia.
Speaking during the Jumat prayer, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the SSG, Dr. Godwin Okezue, lauded the efforts of the fallen heroes as well as those still alive for their efforts in maintaining peace and unity in the country.
The SSG pointed out that the national event is being held simultaneously across the nation, adding that the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes as well as those still alive will always be remembered.
He emphasized that the welfare of the members of the armed forces remains a priority of the present administration and used the opportunity to call on all to attend the Grand finale of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration scheduled to hold on the 15th of this month at Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph, Ogurube layout Umuahia.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Umuahia, Sheik Ali Ukaiwo, called on all to live according to God’s pattern and commandment, stressing that is the only sure way to have a better society.
He noted that the event afforded them the opportunity to pray for the fallen heroes, those in active service, the retirees among others, and commended Governor Dr. Alex Otti for his numerous developmental strides, praying to God to bless him in all his endeavors.
In his remarks, the new Chairman of the Nigeria Legion Abia State chapter, Commodore Ekekwe Duruoha (Rtd.), assured the families of the fallen heroes that their welfare would be a priority, adding that the state chapter of the Nigeria Legion will move forward.
The event featured special prayers for Governor Dr. Alex Otti, the state, and the nation at large, and attracted the presence of military officers from across the state, the Police Imam, Musa Iro Okpemba, among others.
